I came 32nd in the women’s division at the CrossFit NSW/ACT Sectionals.
I didn’t scale the workouts, but the weight and the work were within my capacity: this wasn’t why I got two DNFs on Sunday.

My head was not in the game. I lost my focus, and my temper, in the last WOD.
And yet, all things considered, I’m not disappointed. I feel I’ve come away from the weekend having learned something, and that’s as much as anyone can hope for.
So, what did I learn?
Do the work to Games standards. The form you practice is the form that you’ll come out with under pressure. That means full ROM, that means active shoulders, that means maintain lumbar curve.
It’s not rocket science. It’s not even news. But knowing that you should do something, and understanding it are two different things. I need not to lose track of this insight.
I missed finishing WOD 3 by 2 reps. Better form in the dumbbell swings would have meant less “no reps”, and I would have finished with time to spare.
WOD 4 I failed to complete because I wasn’t being coachable. Listening, taking the feedback on board, correcting my form – again: I wouldn’t have had to repeat the reps, I wouldn’t have gotten frustrated and it would have been a much more productive experience all round.
So: it all comes back to good form. Do it right the first time and you won’t have to do it again.
Here’s hoping my lumbar curve was good on the deadlifts this morning…
